Your Masterpiece

Every choice is a brushstroke. No single stroke creates a masterpiece, but eventually the portrait emerges.“*

We don’t often acknowledge the truth of that quote.

Great programmers are obsessive about detail.

They are not fun to work for or with. They don’t suffer fools, not just lightly, but at all.

They realize that every time they agree to do that weekday remote, they lose listeners.

They realize that every time they allow that horrible spot to air – written by a sales intern, voiced by the salesman – they lose listeners.

They realize that running 10 spots back-to-back kills listening, even without tune-out.

But then, how many of you reading this today are shooting for a masterpiece?

How many of you strive to be great?

How many of you care if the station you’re in charge of is remembered 50 years from now?

Every decision you make about what and who is on the air is important.

Every single one!

We need more programmers and owners obsessed with creating a personal masterpiece.
