What does it say about us that we need a reminder to simply be kind?

And why do you suppose ABC, NBC and CBS all end their nightly newscasts with highly emotional stories that leave us feeling better?

They only have about 20 minutes of actual content and yet they all find a way to spend a couple of those minutes ending their newscasts like that.
