While We Pretend

The body count rises

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
pass into nothingness; but still will keep
a bower quiet for us, and a sleep
full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
~ John Keats

This is not the post that was originally scheduled today.

After the latest mass slaughter, I was left debating with myself: carry on as if nothing at all happened or…?

I can’t just ignore yesterday.

We continue to hear that America does not have a gun problem, it has a mental health problem.

If that is true, then we have more violent psychotics than all the other nations in the world combined!

And this mental health problem is getting worse by the day.

3 of the top 5 mass shootings in American history have now occurred within the past 17 months.

If it’s a mental health problem, why would President Trump sign THIS BILL into law earlier this year??

Talk about a cynical act!

So today, our opposing camps armor up, neither side seemingly willing to do the hard work of listening to the other as we, the most powerful, most innovative nation on earth sadly state there is no solution to this problem.

This problem that happens in America and no other nation on earth.

It’s just the price we pay for living in our uniquely violent, free, society.

The cost of freedom

I really do believe that our attitudes are shaped much more by our social groups than they are by facts on the ground.”

“We are not great reasoners. Most people don’t like to think at all, or like to think as little as possible. And by most, I mean roughly 70 percent of the population.”

“Even the rest seem to devote a lot of their resources to justifying beliefs that they want to hold, as opposed to forming credible beliefs based only on fact.”

If you’re still struggling to understand what’s happening around you, read THIS.

I hope it will help.
