What Google Maps Can Teach Radio

It’sabout anticipating, and answering, need

You can now quickly and easily download the entire London underground and public transportation system from Google Maps.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in London over the years, Google understood a need of mine, and answered it.

We’ve known for 30 years that listeners want fewer commercials, less clutter, and less inane chatter.

Pandora and Spotify are answering that need, even if Radio is not.

Do you know what your listeners want most from your station?

Can you step outside of your role within your station long enough to actually think like a listener, to see something they might need that you can provide?

I ask, because I can guarantee you Google did not fund a research project before deciding lots of people might like being able to see the entire London Tube network on their smart phones.

So, what could your station offer, what could it do, that would delight a lot of your listeners?

What need of their’s can your station fill?

If you can’t think of anything, we need to talk.

And if you can, why aren’t you doing it?
