What it comes down to
Where do you go, to whom do you turn, when your soul needs refreshment, when your courage and self confidence needs replenishment, when your heart yearns for tenderness?
Is there anyone in your life you can trust to be honest with you when it counts, meaning that their dishonesty would confer some advantage to them, and knowing that their real honesty might disappoint or challenge you?
Is there anyone in your life you can trust to accept you, just as you are — unconditionally — without embellishment, accomplishment or effort?
Is there anyone in your life you can trust to be there with you when you need it, without complaint, without judgment, without a sense of obligation or keeping score?
Is there anyone in your life with whom you can be totally vulnerable, without your public mask, without needing to prove anything, without being “on” — the public you most people see most of the time?
Is there anyone in your life who provides comfort from a reservoir of love, a place of deep empathy and concern rather than a sense of duty?
Some things are more important than our definition of what we do to earn money.
Don’t you think this is your most important work today, identifying this person or these people?
What is life without trust?
Very, very lonely…
