This Song

Remember this movie? It was a long time ago!

It’s a true story about the friendship between the great Gayle Sayers and Brian Piccolo which made it all the more poignant.

I’m not reminding you about this story because I want to make you cry today.

I want to point out how you can hear the very first strains of “Brian’s Song” and remember most of the details of these two scenes.

That song got a lot of radio airplay. It won a Grammy. It was the biggest hit of Michel LeGrand’s career. But that was over 50 years ago! It’s not exactly like you’ve heard that song every day.

How is that possible?

Music is magic. It’s stored in a part of the brain that defies age and laughs at dementia.

When you use it successfully to help create mood, and pair it with an unforgettable, personal story, you’ve made something that will last a long time after you’re no longer on the air.

Can you create something listeners will remember 50 years from now?

You can. It’s possible.

The question is, will you?
