There Are No Rules

Despite what you’ve been told

John Hegarty is an advertising icon. He’s written a book, “Hegarty on Creativity: There Are No Rules” which can be distilled into these 5 thoughts:

  1. Collaboration is great for sex, but not so much for creativity. GroupThink breeds blandness.
  2. Bollocks to failure. It happens. Get over it and move on.
  3. Nothing is original so strive for fresh instead. It’s how others respond to your ideas that count.
  4. Take your headphones off. Get outside your office and your building. Being creative means staying connected to the world around you.
  5. Like Paul McCartney, everyone needs his John Lennon, someone you trust who will challenge you, rather than always agreeing that you must be a genius whose every idea is a gem.

 It strikes me that these 5 points absolutely apply to your job in Radio. If your company allows you the freedom to pay attention to these 5 thoughts, I think your product will be the better because of them.
