The Storytelling Animal

An incredible story…

It’s the power behind every great success.

We humans are receptive to good stories, especially fiction, which seems to turn off our logical left brain and engage the emotional synapses of our right.

If you want to change minds, target emotions, not logic.

Data and Powerpoint graphs of human poverty won’t move many people, but show one real, starving child and you’ve opened their wallets by reaching through their hearts.

I think storytelling is one reason Christian radio is doing so well in most PPM markets.

Theirs is one of the greatest stories ever told, and every song they play supports it.

What’s your story? What’s your station’s story?

Can your listeners share the emotion behind your narrative?

If you work in music radio and you think you don’t have time to tell stories, I can tell you, you’re wrong.

You only have time to tell stories.

If Steve Jobs can tell the story of Apple in 60 seconds, you have more than enough time to tell your stories, even in middays.

If you don’t know how to tell your story, I can help.

Sometimes a bit of instruction and a little encouragement is all we need…
