The Process

The fact that we instantly recognize this says everything about our business, doesn’t it?

Whether it’s our own programming, the way we design research studies, or marketing campaigns (if anyone actually gets a marketing campaign these days), the effect of trying to please everyone is always worse than hiring the right individual and empowering him or her to create a masterpiece.

Programming teams and marketing committees look great on consolidated radio’s manpower charts, but in practice, they rarely produce anything truly original and great.

There was only one Picasso, only one Steve Jobs, and neither let a focus group or executive management team shape their vision of their creations.
