Empathy vs Sympathy
Most of the radio companies I work with do some sort of personality testing before they hire. I think that’s a good idea, not so much because it screens out, but because it helps management understand how best to communicate and motivate a diverse staff.
One of the traits I hope you try to screen IN this coming year is empathy.
Empathic employees will make every aspect of work better for every other employee and listener with whom they interact.
Great communication requires active listening and empathy and it’s never too late to practice.
Having even one skilled empath on your staff can help everyone else see — feel — its power.
