Ones you need to see…
Ok, we’ve got two weeks before the Oscars and if you’re anything like me, we want to see the films that have the best chance of winning awards before they’re announced.
I’ve recommended some of them in earlier posts: Birdman, Ida, The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, but here are the ones I’ve seen nominated for major awards that are worth seeing before February 22:
Whiplash, which has already won awards for Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons…
Still Alice, featuring Julianne Moore, the favorite for Best Actress…
Two Days, One Night — which has brought awards nominations for Marion COTILLARD. It’s in French with subtitles.
Leviathon, which has been nominated for Best Foreign Film (also subtitled, but so worth it!)
Boyhood, which is just an amazing film on so many levels…
The Grand Budapest Hotel, up for Best Film, is hilarious, wildly creatvie, and features a brilliant cast…
Foxcatcher, featuring an unrecognizable Steve Carrell, up for Best Actor…
Mr. Turner, from acclaimed director Mike Leigh, up for Best Cinematography, though I loved the story too…
I would recommend every movie listed here. Even if they don’t win the awards for which they’re nominated, they’re wonderfully entertaining, thought-provoking, moving and worthy of your time.
