It always hurts…
Every year
everything
I have ever learned
in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side
is salvation,
whose meaning
none of us will ever know.
To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.
~ Mary Oliver, In Blackwater Woods
The world has lost a great man, Dr. Paul Farmer, who died suddenly, unexpectedly, Monday in Rwanda.
The best way to honor him and his life’s mission is to make a contribution to the work he began: to bring quality affordable health care to every human on this earth.
It’s called Partners in Health and you can check it out HERE. I hope you will support it.
And watch the film of his life’s work, Bending The Arc, on Netflix:
