There are lots of ways to help those in your community who rely on SNAP benefits that have ended.
You can make a cash donation to FEEDING AMERICA, which earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.
If you’re directly affected by the SNAP cuts and need food, you can find a local food bank near you HERE.
You can also check HERE for local food assistance.
TV and Radio stations in many cities across America are conducting their own food drives to help local food banks, so make a couple of calls in your town and see if there’s one you can support.
There are also Mutual Aid programs in scores of cities and towns across our country and you can find one, and support it, HERE. You might prefer something more personal.
If you know a neighbor who’s struggling, you can offer to be a grocery buddy and help pay for their groceries, or if you think that might embarrass them, you can pay for a gift card at your local grocery story and send it to them anonymously, with love.
You can call your local school and find out how to support their “backpack programs” that insure children have at least one good, nutritious meal every day.
Many communities and local restaurants have started special meal programs for those in need, and I know they would welcome your financial support.
The bottom line is, America is too wealthy a nation for anyone to go hungry, especially because of petty partisan politics.
Find a program in your town that you can support.
Skip a meal out this week and donate what you would have spent to Feeding America.
It’ll make you feel great, and it will really help someone who desperately needs the help right now.
Even if their benefits start again soon, food banks around the country have been depleted and need constant restocking. This shutdown has forced millions into a financial hole and they’ll appreciate some help climbing out.
