It’s that time of year…

Once, years and years ago, when our son was still small and I’d walk him through the neighborhood on Halloween, one of the neighbors managed to scare him to death.

He was sitting on his porch, back in a corner, in very low light. He had straw stuffed into overalls and coming out of his cap.

He did not look human. He did not look alive. He looked like a stuffed scarecrow guy.

And all of a sudden as the kids would be standing at the door waiting for their “Trick or Treat,” he would jump up and you could hear the screams for a block.
