…
There aren’t many left now, less each day, literally.
I worked in France for over a decade in the early years of this century and I heard the same thing: “You saved our country. America saved our country. We cannot thank you enough.”
I have visited the American Cemetery in Normandy. It feels like sacred ground. People speak in whispers. There are always tears.
Take the relatively tiny amount of time and effort required today to visit a national cemetery to show your respect for all Americans lost in service, to honor their sacrifice.
Every American generation has paid the price when asked. Every one!
My mom and dad’s generation, often referred to as the “Greatest Generation” saved the entire world – Europe and Asia – less than 100 years ago.
They, and the peoples they liberated, paid an awful price. It’s humbling.
It embarrasses me to hear us complain today about the price of goods we buy, about the world taking advantage of us, when I think of those who have died so we can bitch and moan about our privileged lives.
It’s embarrassing.
Today, on this one day, let’s unite to pay homage to our fallen warriors.
It really is the very least we can do, isn’t it?
