I Want To Believe

Help my unbelief.*

~~~
I want to believe for every greedy CEO earning millions by firing thousands, there’s an equal number of business leaders willing to cut their own pay before they ruin the life of even one employee…
I want to believe for every self-proclaimed person of faith, so quick to judge and condemn, there’s 10 who love unconditionally, tithe faithfully, share willingly, and who never hesitate to do the right thing when no one’s looking…
I want to believe for every selfish, partisan politician whose only goal is personal power and wealth, there’s a Gabby Giffords, determined to put country first, constituents second, and self last…
I want to believe for every cynical nay-sayer who delights in spreading fear and hate throughout our land in pursuit of ratings or riches or fame, there’s 20 young people spreading idealism and hope and love…
I want to believe for every person living in a shelter, or under a bridge, there’s someone with enough compassion to share of their bounty, to lift up rather than push down, to understand we are all the recipients of grace…
I want to believe that in this season, if at no other time, I can be less self-absorbed, and in every face I notice, see a glimpse of the Divine.
I want to believe in the hope of the Christmas story.
Don’t you?
