Hope Is Power

Sometimes I feel like this butterfly.

This spot reminds me I’m not alone. None of us is.

Journalism is under attack everywhere, even in America and England and our so-called “liberal democracies,” so its good to see this newspaper in Great Britain spend on marketing again for the first time in seven years.

A free press is absolutely vital to democracy, so important that Thomas Jefferson wrote:

No experiment can be more interesting than that we are now trying, and which we trust will end in establishing the fact, that man may be governed by reason and truth. Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues to truth. The most effectual hitherto found, is the freedom of the press. It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions.”

One of the ways we can help protect our democracy is by paying to subscribe to a respected source of factual truth. Real investigative journalism, independent journalism, costs money.

It’s worth it, especially if we hope to maintain a free press.
