The Post-Social Media

Lots of people are making lots of money advising companies like yours about social media.

The problem is, the more social media becomes another form of advertising, the less it is used by the very people who initially embraced it. That’s just one of the reasons younger users are abandoning Facebook and Twitter.

PBS ran a Frontline episode about the inevitable commercialization of social media recently. You can watch the entire episode online HERE.

For me, I just wish managers would spend as much time worrying about what comes out of the speakers between songs as they do about their social media efforts.

But then, I haven’t given up on broadcast radio as a powerful way to engage individuals, even young ones.
