Dying

In the name of vaccine freedom

Our daughter-in-law is a pulmonologist. She lost two patients to Covid yesterday, and had to tell a family hoping for a miracle that their husband/father/son/brother was not going to survive the night.

She told me that Covid will change American healthcare, perhaps forever. She said in 5 years or so, there will be a mass exodus of nurses, and many doctors too, overwhelmed by the stress of caring for, and ultimately losing, so many dying patients. She said the emotional toll on everyone in the Covid wards is overwhelming and persistent.

There is no place for all that pain and grief to go,” she said.

I asked where she put her grief and pain.

Later tonight, I will let it out. I will cry with my husband. We will cry together.”
