The fact that men want to be Pope (or President), that they believe they, more than any other, possess the judgment, the humility, to be the voice of God on earth, feels disqualifying of itself.
Power, even proximity to power, corrupts and few can resist its temptation. Cardinals – and Popes (and Presidents) – are as susceptible as any of the rest of us. It is a lesson.
Few have the strength of character to examine their own hearts in this circumstance.

The acting, especially by each of the main characters, is flawless. Obviously, the film could not be more timely, and there are unexpected twists along the way.
