Because THEY Can!

Most of us “in the business” are spoiled when it comes to seeing live music shows.

Our tickets are not only comped, they’re often the best seats and accompanied by backstage passes that let us meet the artists and pose with them for pictures designed to make lesser status friends feel envy.

So, maybe we aren’t sensitive enough to what the concert business is becoming to those who listen to our radio shows.

Who can afford to pay thousands of dollars to see Mick Jagger’s 80-year-old body sing 60-year-old hits?

We heard about Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour all summer, but her young, mostly female, fans paid multiple thousands of dollars to attend IF they could even find a ticket.

Now, on top of that, Live Nation announced it’s adding VIP packages and seating so the mega-rich can look down on the mere mortals who paid only thousands for their seats.

Check that out HERE, and HERE (subscription to Billboard required). And don’t think the “man of the people” – Springsteen – shares your outrage. He supports this new idea.

And I realize it’s not only concerts.

If you’re a fan and want to take your family to a game, you’d better be rich because outrageously expensive tickets are the “new normal” to see NBA, NFL, even NHL games live.

And that’s kind of sad for most fans, no matter who they want to see. Another example of how income inequality in developed nations is getting worse, not better.
