An Unlikely Friendship

And a wonderful idea

If you, like me, are a reader, you’ll love this because you’ll see instantly that it’s something we both can do.

But there’s another part to this story, and that is, it requires me to make a human connection with people I don’t want to see. Because, giving books to the homeless is only the first part of why this is an unusual friendship.

The bigger risk is acknowledging, and talking to, another human being.

Taking the time to have a conversation is the stunner!

Homelessness isn’t a disease.

I need to remind myself that I can’t catch it just by taking the time to actually speak to, and try to get to know, the human being behind the grubby, unwashed, possibly mentally ill exterior.

Compassion is easy until I have to touch and be touched.

As Mother Teresa, who walked the walk all her life said: “Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough. Money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love wherever you go.
