Akili’s Story

23 weeks and 4 days

I attended Vanderbilt University as a pre-med major. I intended to become a doctor, and so, that first year, my student job was working in the Preemie ward, now known as Neonatal Intensive Care.

What I witnessed that year was always amazing and sometimes heartbreaking.

Nothing is as precious as your child.

This ad really resonated with me. It’s backed up by science now, but even if it wasn’t, I would feel the same way.

My dad’s been gone for a few years now.

I miss him, but I know my son will give me a tight hug tomorrow and I’ll be remembering hugs I gave my dad while I still could.

Hugs have a healing power. Give as many as you can.
