There was a time when journalism wasn’t a career, it was a calling.”

Those words, spoken by her character, Mackenzie Phillips, really defined The Newsroom, an HBO production.

I still hear some wonderful radio in my travels and what I know for certain is that the best content is a by-product of the passion for the gift of forging deep connection with other people, most of whom we will never know.

Yes, talent is necessary (and rare), but the very best air talent, the very best programmers, the very best general managers I get to deal with feel they’ve been called for this purpose. 

They are doing what they are meant to do.

It’s a distinction that is immediately obvious to all those around them.
