Humbling…
My son attended USC, a private university in Los Angeles, which is not that long a walk from Skid Row, in downtown LA.
The dichotomy of so much privilege that close to so much despair made it impossible to ignore.
We see what we choose to see and tend to group individuals based upon things like appearance, when it is clear that each human being is unique.
Often the only difference between “us” and “them” is circumstance, bad judgment, and sometimes sheer luck.
And beneath the rough exterior, we can find human beings just like us, in terms of their hopes and dreams…
This week — especially this week — when we celebrate a national day of thanksgiving for all we have been given, don’t forget the homeless in your town.
