Welcome To America

Is this how it is?

I went to high school in Singapore, because there wasn’t one in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, where my parents lived.

I lived in a hostel — a group home — for missionary kids in similar circumstances.

Once, arriving by train from Kuala Lumpur after Christmas break, the immigration officials in Singapore denied my entry.

They said my hair was too long (pretty funny if you’ve known me since I lost all of it) and told me they would have to send me back to KL unless I agreed to have my hair cut right then, right there, in the train station, which, of course, I did.

So I know a tiny bit of what this feels like…

I hope it’s not really like this in America now, but I fear it may be.

What happened to us here in the home of the brave that we’re so afraid of immigrants that this seems plausible?
