To Walk Invisible

The true story of the Bronte sisters.

If you love books, I have a treat for you.

It’s called To Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters and here in the States it aired on Masterpiece on PBS (membership may be required).

I loved Jane Eyre as a boy. I think that’s got to be true for almost everyone who’s read it.

And perhaps I wouldn’t have appreciated this true story about Charlotte, and her sisters, Emily and Anne, if I had known it when I first read Jane Eyre.

As with all productions on Masterpiece PBS, this is superbly acted, beautifully shot and hauntingly scored.

This story, the reasons the sisters tried to keep their true identities unknown, resonates as much right now, with the headlines in whatever media you consume, as it did 150 years ago.

It was a time when women were not thought of as authors, or intellectuals, and knowing what these three sisters produced while living the lives they had to live at that time makes their genius even more astounding.

Plus, without giving anything away, I will tell you there’s a twist, a truth I’d never known, that humanizes everything.

You may have to be a member of PBS to view it online, but it is so worth it. You can join for as little as $5 a month, and have the finest content available today.

It’s a wonderful story.
