The Tortoise and The Hare

Running the race…

We all look for shortcuts, for an easier race, a faster finish.

In Radio today, we mostly don’t get to pick the race we run. It’s decided by someone in corporate, and corporate is never patient.

Too bad, because that’s actually the surest path to success.

The mass market is no longer. There is almost no room left for the next Procter & Gamble or Google. Instead, you are far more likely to do your best work if you are willing to delight a few as opposed to soothe the masses.

That’s a quote from Seth Godin, and as with many things Seth says, its truth is almost intuitive.

If Radio’s owners cared as much about building passion for their product as they do about revenue, the revenue would take care of itself, and then some.

That’s really the issue I was talking about last week.

Our definition of winning has changed.

No one aspires to greatness in 2012.
