The Opportunity of Adversity

Meet Aimee Mullins

If you will be patient enough to watch and listen — really listen — to this entire talk, you will be moved.

For it is not possible to live to our age without facing adversity.

In truth, many of us have struggled, and have watched those we love and care about struggle, more in the past 3-4 years than we might have imagined possible a decade or two ago.

And which parent amongst us has not begged God to transfer our childrens’ adversities to our adult shoulders, to heal their tiny, hurting hearts and spirits, and give their pain to us.

I know many of you reading this today need to feel real hope.

You need to believe you can get through this, and emerge whole, emerge still worthy of love and respect, emerge with a stronger belief in yourself.

Listen to Aimee: “Adversity is part of our life. The question isn’t whether or not you’re going to meet adversity but how you’re going to meet it. So, our responsiblity is not simply shielding those we care for from adversity, but preparing them to meet it well.

Know that many who listen to you, or interact with you, today can have their very lives changed, forever, by the words you use.

So choose your words thoughtfully.

Think carefully about the power you wield.

For you have a larger impact than you realize, and a greater opportunity than most.

Use it well
