Are videos like these, which appear so often now on sites like Vimeo, shot by ordinary people like you and me?
Local TV stations used to employ "photo-journalists." Denver's Gannett-owned TV station had some of the best over the years, artists really, who could tell stories using just beautifully shot pictures, with music.
Mostly, local TV "journalists" now must man their own cameras, and it doesn't seem like any of these people have the luxury of time to create these visual essays.
But, just because local TV isn't funding it doesn't mean it's gone away. And it doesn't mean there isn't an avid audience for this art form.
This is strangely compelling...

...and beautifully shot.
If I ran a local TV operation, I'd do everything in my power to find the people in my local community who have this kind of talent, and expose their work on the air.
Because exposure is really what they want. They want people to see their work, as artists always have.
