It’s more important than IQ

…at least as a determinant of success.

That’s according to The Harvard Business Review article from Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic who points out that IQ only reveals one part of a person. Equally important, one’s Creative Quotient (CQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ).

People with higher EQ tend to be more entrepreneurial, so they are more proactive at exploiting opportunities, taking risks, and turning creative ideas into actual innovations.”

CQ leads to higher levels of intellectual investment and knowledge acquisition over time…Knowledge and expertise, much like experience, translate complex situations into familiar ones, so CQ is the ultimate tool to produce simple solutions for complex problems.”

IQ is about managing a lot of information in the short term, while CQ deals with overall knowledge and risk-taking, and EQ entails the ability to perceive and control emotions.”

The Google pre-hire testing is legendary, but even Google is looking for more than just IQs above 150 because they know “…the ability to adapt to uncertainty and produce simple solutions for complex situations is due to high levels of EQ and CQ.”

I think Radio is well past the age of hiring air talent based on having a deep voice and hiring sales and office staff based on a 15-minute interview.

If we really want to attract the best in our stations, we need to dig a lot deeper.
